hail mi idrens!
these two sets have been in heavy rotation for i for the past few weeks, and i wondered how I n I felt about the two in comparison.
i personally enjoy the original Scratch the Super Ape better. Songs like zion blood, underground root, dub along, and three in one are killer!
[cover=3854,298]
Return of Super Ape has also some crucial cuts, like crab years (and really side B alltogether), but i dont think it is as good as the first set...
what does the I think...?

I would agree completely I enjoy super ape more than return of...
But you are right, return has some solid tracks.

I agree with both of you." Scratch the Super Ape " seems to be a far better engineered album,the flow is better and the tracks are all killers.BUT " Return of ..." can certainly stand up on it`s own merit,side two being slightly rougher in the mix and not as polished as side one.Both albums should be on any Perry fans " must have " list.And, as to what can be done with minimalistic studio equipment ,the results are superb!

how could i not respond to this?
i admit that i like super ape more than the return of super ape...but, as a super ape, i think they are both excellent records, of course!
super ape is a killer record that is good for dub fanatics as well as reggae fans who are just getting the feeling for dub. it is a great intro album for those starting to collect dub albums and can always hold its own amongst other heavy classics.
irie!

For me *Super Ape* is absolutely brilliant. *Return*, on the other hand, is one of Scratch's most disappointing efforts. For me, really the beginning of the end... I really do not like that record.
Well, sorry to spoil the party.

I adore Return, as it was one my first reggae lp's I purchased. That, and I enjoyed most of the tracks on the LP. From the title track, Bird in Hand, Crab Yars... all wonderful in my eyes. In the end though, it really comes down to personal taste. Personally, I feel Return ranks among my favorite Perry productions!

Later Black Ark is overrated.
No, I am not high. But I can spell.
I stick by my opinion.
