I would like to know what's the deal with certain producers, when reissuing oldies 7"
why the digital B-sides ??
why the ORIGINAL dub / version never appears on the B-sides ??
why the double A-sides ??
and finally why the Lp dub tracks, you can't fool us producers.

Imho, it may be due to only having vinyl as a master(no tapes) & many didnt look after thier b-sides very well & to have someone like me do vinyl remastering... well it just doesnt happen to often. But I agree, aleast have a track from the smae era on it. But to pose another question, when reissuing why remix... (sylford walker - golden pen) for example, whats with the backup singers?

nah man it happens because they use old records and they make first the a side blanc then to put a new tune on it. the b side is mostly from not completly sold selections from past, it call "recycling"

I dont think that would really be possible! (repress one side while keeping the old side in tact..wouldnt it have to be heated /melted / reshaped?

wouldn't the shape of the record be different on either side? (the part where the label is)
and how do they remove the old label?
wouldnt the colour of the vinyl be different on each side ? wouldnt the writing of the matrix be different on either side ? (and dozens of other questions)

I honestly don't think that's possible. It would be easier for them just do melt the vinyl and redo the entire 7". It would probably be a highly expensive process with many delicate elements in it ... two details rarely seen in the Jamaican pressing industry.

Where did you get that story from?
Reminds me of my friend who's always digging the balled side of my funk 7"'s and trying to convince me to let him try and cut it in half with a laser (he's a scientist for the government, so he has access) I haven't given in yet.
I have cut a 12" LP down to approx a 10 inch because it was cracked (and the outer 4 tunes were disposable) and didn't want it to run.
