The Nazarenes are two Ethiopian brothers who are based in Gothenburg, Sweden. They do great melodic roots. I highly recommend them.

Maybe the Nazarenes left Ethiopia because they are into Reggae. ;)
At least according to my limited experience Ethiopia is quite barren reggaewise. Couldn't even find a reggae party in Addis. As I heard sometimes you have bands playing Bob Marley covers and that's about it.
Teddy Afro, who is a big star in Ethiopia, has a few reggae-flavoured songs, but it is more pop music.
Teddy Dan impressed me with his "Jah Day" 7inch, but then, though living in Shashamane, he is a Jamaican and probably doesn't count in this context.
I think Ethiopian music from the 60s and 70s would be well worth checking out. You can find some Ska influence in it. There is a series of CDs called Ethiopiques which features authentic Ethiopian music:

Finally Matthew 7 in Amharic and English reggaewise:

GiGi did a couple of albums with Bill Laswell..
The one that is a must is the BOOK OF EXIT: SacredSystem LP..
Has a big tune called "Bati" sung in Amharic and "Ethiopia"...
If anyone is familar with Bill Laswell, then you know its not straight up "Reggae" but has some serious arrangements and dub..
Also, check the group DALLOL which put out an album on Tuff Gong in the early to mid '80's..Some of the players went on to back Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers...
