Went to this show on Saturday and Lord or Lord did Ken Boothe and Leroy rip it! Their voices still sound just as fresh and what a command of a the stage. Crowd was 60-70% older Jamaicans (probably about 500 people there or more) and why they decided to headline Bitty I'll never know. Though I liked his set, it didn't carry the same weight.
Boothe and Sibbles would pull the mic away and point it to the singing crowd who was invariabbly louder than the singers, but when McClean tried the same stunut in his set all I could here was squeaking shoes.

I saw Ken Boothe play about a year ago with Leroy Sibbles, and Ken Boothe was great! he was running aroung and jumping all about. he reminded me of a cartoon character. His voice was really great. The band was good as well. How was his backing band when you saw him jordandance?

They had this one Santana-ish guitar player who was obviously the leader of the band and got all the early guitar-jerk-off solos for the early performers, but he knew his place for the last three. GReat band, even better when Leroy stole the bass for himself. Man, does Ken Boothe love the spin move!

Not a huge fan of Sibbles on stage (too much show off like "you know, I did all studio one riddim, I did all in Jamaican music" etc... but Ken Boothe is big big big, a humble man with one of the sweetest jamaican voices, still at his best, don't miss him if he comes near your place !
I'm going to see him on the 17th of may for the 4th time, I really can't wait !

Re: Bitty McClean, Ken Boothe and Leroy Sibbles
I saw Ken Boothe, Leroy Sibbles, Pat Kelly and the Cables in Kingston last year, the very day of my 30th birthday... What a present that was ! Exactly the same type of audience jordandance described. One of the best nights in my life for sure !
Concerning the great Ken Boothe, I'm lucky to know him a little bit, and I could spend some time at his home with him. He's surely a wonderful person, with an amazing charisma, but I wouldn't call him "humble". Not all a show off, but a man who totally knows what a true legend he is.

I see what you mean, from a latin point of view, Ken Boothe is not what we call "humble" but from a Jamaican (or even anglo-saxon) point of view, he is more humble when he plays live than lots of artists always speaking about themselves all along the gig instead of playing. And compared to Leroy Sibbles, what a difference !anbessa wrote:but I wouldn't call him "humble". Not all a show off, but a man who totally knows what a true legend he is.
