I have a feeling "Cochie" which is on Operation Eradication was released as a single before "Soldier Take Over" so you I think you are maybe right mellow yellow...

According to RKR database (4th ed. from 2005) it could be a 7" by the title 'My Rosie' produced by Lloyd 'Spiderman' Campbell. Release date is given with 1978.
This must have been right before he started his dancehall appearances on Aces International Discotheque.

First album release was 'Mad over me' from 1981 as already stated.

Ruddy T. was the first to produce Yellowman on a 45. If I recall correctly he recorded three tracks for Ruddy T. Me Kill Barnie, Love Struck, and All Kind of Style. The last two tracks being released January '82. Same month Soldier Take Over was released.
