I am doing some research on the origin of Reggaeton. I know its basic sound was from a Jamaican Dem Bow used in the late 80's early 90's.

I have been told it is from the Poco Drum or Pocomania. I have also been told that the basic pattern of Reggaeton was borrowed form a pattern
that was originated by the Maroons from Africa.

Lastly, there is some connection between the Dem Bow and the producers Steely and Cleevie. I am limited on my knowledge of Jamaican musical history, can you guys help out by providing me any supportive information. It would be greatly appreciated. I work with an artist called Notch formerly of BornJamericans and we want to be able to provide correct information when we are asked questions regarding the connection.

Fist of all, i wish they take of the word - reggae- from reggaeton. it have nothing to do with that.

Im from PR, all that music is Dem Bow, it came all from jamaican dance hall music.

I remember that the "reggaeton Movement" begin in the mid 90's after these 3 albums:

1. Strictly the Best - 7: Cutty Ranks (A who se me don), Raivon (big up) and all of them
2. Super Cat (don dada) - the reggaeton artist (like daddy yankee) sing with the beats of: Don Dada, Gheto Rude Boy.
3. Mad Cobra - Flex single.

and many many more.....

They also use the beats of "heart desease" song. (don't remember who sing it), Buju Banton - boom bye bye.

I remember in latin america (panama, costa rica, hoduras) were a lot of reggea artist that sing the songs listed above in spanish. (like nando boom, el general)
