Always the innocent

I know that china's record on human rights is abysmal and that they have one of the most corrupt regimes in this little world of ours, but having seen the TV footage of Chinese Mothers digging out the bodies of their dead children using their bare hands has left me deeply moved and saddened beyond belief. Maybe it's because I am a parent myself, I don't know but that must be the most terrible thing in the world.

Likewise the situation in Burma where people have literally lost everything from their families to their houses and yet their goverment still refuses to let other nations help them.

Makes me feel very humble, very sad and also puts all my mundane minor grumbles about life in the UK into perspective.

I know that their are no easy answers but sometimes you just want to get these things off your chest, bang a few heads together and hope that some sort of sense will kick in and they will sort things out.

Unlikely to happen I know but just wanted to let my feelings known.

We have been fretting in the cafe this week because the boiler broke down and we didn't have hot running water. It made life hard but we managed - with help from the tea urn which produces piping hot water! (and we were technically breaking the law to be open without hot running water)

Today it was fixed and I said to the staff "Look how much we were vexed by this. We take such luxuries for granted and struggle so when they aren't there. Now look to China or Burma or anywhere in the world where they are *really* suffering - so many places without *any* water, running, hot or otherwise. It makes us look very bourgeois, doesn't it?"

We all felt very ashamed and rather humbled.

true true leggo, all of us here seem to be well-off-enough to have computer access, music access/etc... with all the real suffering in the world, this is something to be truly thankful for. each day is a gift from the Creator and we must give praises for this!

Yes, we have to give thanks all the time for this gift of God.
