She has a decent modern soul voice and gets props for borrowing from such a great tune but it doesn't touch the original. She totally loses the directness of the tune by doing the fast vocal runs up and down the rhythm. This style is very popular today (no more Marvin Gaye or Al Green type soul coming out).
Maybe it will cause a few people to find Mr. Campbell's work, though.

This is the second time i've heard a studio one tune used to make a current mainstream, I believe the artist is from UK named Lilly Allen who sampled an Jackie Mittoo Tune

Guys, it's a Curtis Mayfield song, adapted by Coxsone.
Hence I don't know if it's really fair to blame anyone for
using the tune...Appart from that, I agree, crap version.

She's using the rhythm track from the reggae version.

Hi Jason,
Yes, I realized that. My point was more
'If it's OK for Coxsone to adapt the tune,
why not for her to use the studio one rythm?'
Basically, I think anyone should feel free to rework
on what others have done -paying due tribute,
off course.
Cheers

Guys lighten up,any reggae played on maainstream radio is a good thing,
Thats not even the studio one,it's a channel one sample.
It's an R'n'B tune with a reggae vibe introducing reggae to people that think channel one is a tv station.
As long as the original tune has been credited to the original artist/producer i will give it a thumbs up!
Off to do some research!

I apologize if I came across as short. Wasn't trying to be rude. Just thought you might not have checked out the Youtube clip and were going off of what the posts were saying about it being a cover of Queen of the Minstrels.
Also, it might be interesting to start a post of known Curtis Mayfield/ Impressions songs that have been adapted by reggae artists. I know there have been many.

Just be thankful that artists still find inspiration in the great music of the past. Why criticize her for having great taste in a riddim such as Queen of the Minstrel. As for her voice I think it is beautiful....check the link below....
