Just wanted to touch base on this question, but when you're collecting Reggae are you doing it for ...........................

1 the love of the music

2 money love

3 showing off

4 other reasons

[please state, be truthful]

1. "One thing about music, when it hits you, ya feel no pain..." Definatley in it for the irie vibrations!

2. I don't look for rare reggae, I search out what I like. Usually if it is rare, it means I will never have an original copy/pressing, etc. Represses are fine with me as long as the qualities still there! (tu)

3. Pfft... everyone I know is into everything but reggae. I'm showing off... that I'm the odd man out!

For the music and not follow fashion which is over rated and not cheap.so showing off and people want a recorded copy of it.

Showing Off...don't know the world situation but in Italy the only place to play roots music is your room and few few session , i'm happy to play "strange" tunes but if i had to make if for showing off is better i take Alborosie and Sizla

Other reason...well i like collect roots music to discover new tunes,artists,labels,producers...

cho! is but one reason, the love of the chunes. no other sound carries the same irie vibe and positive message!

money is THE problem when you collect reggae and if you want to have somthing else than calssic reggae

Showing off?No one to show off to actually, none of my friends is into reggae, I feel rather discriminated:)Thanks God for RA:)

Forever and ever...

I buy reggae for the listening. Every chance I get I play the records. When I play them I get joy, sometimes I get so much joy the hairs literally stand up on my body. This reggae music is like a drug addiction to me, and it's the best one I've ever been hooked on!

For money? No way! If it was for money then I wouldn't open sealed 30 year old records and half their value instantly! But I do, because I want to play them.

Showing off. I'll admit to being very proud of my collection. Pride is a fault so I promise to try and fix this

Other reasons. For sharing. I love to play my music to others and share this fantastic vibe. That's why I like to upload them onto the mix tape site. I also enjoy playing them out at shows, but there's so little chance to do this as roots reggae isn't in great demand for playing out. Again, I'll admit I am showing off a bit when I play out, not really showing off the music collection, but showing off myself. But I've always been a showman!

As evidenced in the responses, I think this site attracts those that are into reggae, not the collectors side of things; I'm sure if the archives listed records by rarity, price etc.,you may have gotten more varied responses.

The Roots Archives are for reggae lovers not babylon wheelin' and dealin' profits.
