I`ve just ordered "Chanting dub with the help of the father" by Augustus Pablo on the "Rockers" label. Ive heard some good things about this album and wondered what it is like. Can anyone tell me if its a Killer, Crucial or could I have given it a miss.
Thanks
Morris.

Great album, one of the better Pablo LPs from that period. Not in the same league as his This Is, King Tubbys Meets or any of those, but its still a very good album

Just before you expect something totally different....Chanting Dub, like In the Light dub, is not an Augustus Pablo record. He is featured as member of Rockers All Stars musically and probably was involved in musical arrangements, but the record was produced by the late and great Everton DaSilva and the tracks feature real crucial dub mixes to some of the best tunes that were released through the Hungry Town label around 1977/1978.
The dubmix was done perfectly by Prince Jammy.
The record first appeared with a greenonwhite Rockers label, distributed from N.Y. through Hungry Town. Around ca. 1990 Pablo made a release on his own Rockers International label.
Anyway, this is a mightyfine dubrecord.

Agree with the others here, fine lp. Some very beautiful music on this one, as well as some dreader sounding sounds.
Anyone know if there are any major differences in the sound quailty b/t these two issues?

i enjoy this set a great deal. you can defnitely tell it is not a "pablo" set, very different sounds than his standard ting.
the set is very chilled out IMO. very few effects are used and the tunes are all very solid and steady. a nice dub record for any collector
