I spent yesterday with Roots-Archives member Anorak Trev.

The main purpose of the visit was to check out his record deck, which he made.

As he's an F1 engineer you can imagine that this ain't no cobbled together bitsa deck. In fact, it is amazing! My sound system sounds terrible now that I've heard what his deck can do -- and believe me, my set up sounds better than any other I've heard previous to visiting Trev!

But the real purpose of this post is to thank him most sincerely and publicly for his hospitality, generosity, good nature and time.

It was great to meet up with him and it brought home to me exactly what we have here at Roots-Archives - A genuine community of friends and associates joined together by a serious love of reggae music.

So thanks Trev and lets all take extra-special care of what we have here as it is very valuable (in human, not financial terms).

I also have to thank Anorak Trev for demonstrating that well mastered CDs played on a REALLY good CD player sound totally different to how they sound on a 'vanilla' CD player.

I've never heard such warm sound from digital equipment.

I am sure that blindfolded, I wouldn't have ever guessed he was playing me a CD.

Beyond the humility and slight embarrasment of what Leggo has written,the main purpose of this reply is to reiterate what Leggo states.

That what we all have here on Roots Archives is worth its weight in gold.The knowledge,the camaraderie of ALL of its members,the ability to have,on ocassions,an informed debate ( sometimes heated ).To share the wealth of information between each other,from ALL over this planet.At the end of the day ,it`s a love of REGGAE MUSIC.Play on........

Actually, bullit, I do have photos of this absolute beast of a system and, if Trevor doesn't do it (and doesn't mind) I'll try and scan them in (they aren't digital) next week and upload them for all to see.

Incidentally, I thought I had a pretty decent bit of kit, but.....................

Ooh, now I'm curious. Is there any paricular models that you recommend? Or is this a custom built AnorakTrev special as well?

Not home made that one! I can't remember the model name. Some hi-end DAC or something that Trev probably got at a bargain price at a car boot or something

Audio Analogue MAESTRO Digital Audio Processor.

This is a CD player, which can also be used as a stand alone DAC, with a co-axial input for another CD player, just used as a transport.It can also upsample to 96khz./24 bit via pushbutton on the fascia. ( I don`t use this too often, as it can make some CD`s sound " harsh " ) And some homemade silver plated phono leads to connect it to the pre-amp.

This is a monster piece of kit at 44lbs.,bought at an absolute bargain price from someone who didn`t know what they were selling . at £595 ( Should retail when it was new at £1750 ) OK,it is a lot to spend on a CD player,but it was something I had been waiting for,for a couple of years.Their loss ,my gain !!

Only downside is that if you have a badly mastered CD it will sound crap,but not unlistenable.I`ve said it before-shit in,shit out !
