Hi there!

Is someone of you going at the carnival?

I'm gonna be there this year for the first time and I wanted to ask some questions to all of you who have already been there.

1. What time does it start and finish? (and : dates are 24-25 august, right?)

2. I read that during the carnival the metro (tube) and buses are out of service....do they start working again as soon as the carnival is over?

3. What about if it rains?

Many thanks in advance dubbers! =)

Sunday 24th and Bank Holiday Monday 25th 11AM - 8PM for both days.

The tubes and buses run on all the carnival days.

If it rains it still goes ahead, it usually is just a shower.

The Carnival has floats that do a route through the streets throughout the days and on the last day Monday they gather in a procession at about 8PM and goes on till 12 midnight on a marked out route that now goes to Hyde Park (I think thats what they`re doing this year) They decided to do that last year after years of circling the Notting Hill area.

The best SoundSystem playing for Roots Reggae is Channel One at Leamington Rd. Villas.

As the event gets closer there will be more info on each soundsystem and the type of music they play and the carnival float route.

Hi Steppin Razor!

Thank you so much for all these infos!!

When it comes to the Carnival, I hear lots of people talking only about Aba Shanti I and Channel One...isn't Jah Observer worth seeing? (it's just curiosity, since I've seen Jah Observer just once, but it was really a great roots dance!)

Thanks again!

Jah Observer is playing on the next block (Ledbury Rd./Talbot Rd.) from Channel One so you can go from one to the other in a few minutes.
Aba Shanti I sound (East Row). yes these are the three main roots sounds to check out.

I had the very real honour of leading a Notting Hill Carnival opening some years ago as a guest of the black motorcycle club 'The Cobras'. It was so cool to be heading the line, all riding our motorcycles.

As for the carnival itself, it was the best Notting Hill I've 'done' because I was with some guys from the 'inside'. The president of the Cobra's actually lived on the carnival route so we were able to hang out in his front yard watching the show pass by. Or take a walk out knowing we could come back 'home' for food, shelter and other conveniences!

The Cobras, although originally opened as a blacks only club was by then accepting members from any racial group.

Thanks a lot Steppin Razor!

I heard that sometimes (not every year) Mighty Tabot plays in the carnival.

Does someone know if they're gonna be at the carnival this year?

If yes, where do they play?

Hi!

Not sure if I understood your question (sorry for my raw english

Do you want to know if there's some sound system playing after the carnival?

On the 24th at night there is the Dub Conference with Jah Voice, Iration Steppas and King Earthquake

And on the 25th back to the carnival =)
