A friend of mine gave me, rather helpfully without the inlay, the Freedom Sounds in Dub Blood & Fire cd mixed by Tubby. I've done a bit of internet-ing about Brown, but can't find a whole lot about the guy. Its a beautiful collection of tracks!
What was his thing? Were the 70s his hey-day, or did he do a bunch of later stuff that is worth investigating? Was he quite a laissez-faire producer? Or was it 'his' sound that he cultivated?
Thanks,

PP

I love the Freedom Sounds material - it is really exceptional - Bertram Brown seemed to have a way of getting great performances from the musicians and singers (whether by direction or giving the artists freedom to do as the chose is a good point!) and to the best of my knowledge most of the best stuff was voiced and final mixed at Tubby's.
Prince Alla, Earl Zero, Phillip Fraser, Rod Taylor and a few others really made some of the finest roots, heartical tracks with Freedom Sounds. His output in the 70s was not prolific but is of great quality in all respects.
I can't tell you anything about 80s onward.
And yes, Freedom Sounds in Dub is a great place to start - it's what got me started on this part of JA music.
