I recently picked this up and was surprised at the consistent quality of this LP. It's not groundbreaking or spectacular but is quite a nice listen with no weak tracks and a really nice roots sound.
I never hear people mention David Jahson and was wondering if anyone else on the forum also enjoys or has an opinion on this LP.

Re: David Jahson- Natty Chase the Barber
David Jahson is a talented singer and a very good man. I met him 2 times in 2002 for late night interviews in backstages. Unforgetable moments!! There was food, all the musicians sitting around and listenning Jahson remembering about his early years in Trenchtown, his mentor Joe Higgs and his friend Jacob Miller.
He is not well known today because of his desire for being independant. The second reason is the album 'Natty Chase The Barber Away' is still unreleased with a serious work with liner note and artwork, addition tracks.
Unfortunately, a french pirate label released it in 1995 but without the exceptional first track because their vinyl was damaged!!!
You can find an exellent interview done with Peter I on www.reggae-vibes.com
Would like to meet him again...

I bought this album a couple of months ago and I was also surprised by the consistent quality. He's one of those underestimated Jamaican artists who deserves it to become more well known.
Same as Sylvan White "Africans Unite" lp.....

Re: David Jahson- Natty Chase the Barber
i ve discovered david jahson years ago in 1999 in a compilation of his tunes on a lp called "roots of david" which is a selection of songs from 1976 to 1996.
i felt immediately the powerful of this artist with tunes like "jah is comig for his earth" (in everyday is just a holyday riddim)& particularly "People s Bawling "& "formula"!!! wonderful & heavy tune !!!
Does someone know from what album or 12" this song "formula"(1985 song) is from ?
i have published this LP on reggae-vibes.fr you can see it now on strictly

Mr Jahson's myspace page includes tracks from his most recent release. He has not lost any of his classic sound and the tracks on this page truly sound like they could have been done 25-30 years ago during reggae's heyday. I'd never guess reggae like this could be made just a few years ago.

I'm sure David Jahson would be happy to read all your coments about his music. He's free with his own music and i hope he will break one day like Winston McAnuff did it some years ago in France with Makasound's help.

Greetings, Mr Jahson!
It is exciting to hear that you have new material coming out. Is there any chance that Natty Chase the Barber (or tracks from that time) will be re-issued on CD?
