At last we made a new database update (the previous one was on May 10th !)

You can check the list of new additions there :

http://www.roots-archives.com/latest_additions

We also updated the forthcoming albums section (as stated in the news)

Many thanks to all of you for your contributions, pictures, corrections, etc ...

Nice. I've also been waiting for the Reggae Archives section or site.

Reggae Archives and the singles part will see the day but I can't say when.

There's a lot of technical issues on Reggae Archives including a login for the whole website (including the forum) and an undo for albums edits. Just looking at the forum these last days shows that only 1 person can mess a great part of the database if he wants to ; by replacing artist names, albums names, covers etc ... with nonsense or insults.
So in my opinion there's no chance that this project will be completed in 2008.

As for the singles, a part of the job has been done. I trust it should be online before the end of the year. We still have to discuss how users could submit info in a user friendly way which is not the case for now.

We are open to any suggestions (of course).

All the best,

Seb

Seb,

Would it be an idea to let RA members add more specific information on each individual record? Such as:

Rating an album on a scale from 1-10? In this way an average rating from all votes will be listed.

Adding comments as 'Essential', 'Recommended' and so on..
(as a result of the above mentioned rating system)

Stating it's an original press or repress

Adding short album descriptions by RA members with respect to any particular album (like the Pressure Sounds website)

I think all of this will result in RA becoming a more reggae guiding website with buying advices for both rookie and experienced collectors/music lovers.

Regards,

Ras Andejo

Ras Andejo,

those suggestions are good ones and are part of the reggae archives project.
once again it's only possible if we have a log in inside the website as we couldn't let comments available for non registered users or we would be flooded by bots and some people.
keep in mind it will also make a lot of works for moderators to read every comments and delete the bad ones, but we are working on it.

A suggest is to make us partecipate to these projects , you can chose some people that help you with singles and other that help you with comments...and so on! I think that most of us will be happy collaborate and to help you.

Totally agree with this! Let registered(!) RA members add all additional information by themselves in stead of RA moderators. The moderators could facilitate the new functionality, will keep track of it, make additions/deletions if necessary and so on. I think it's time to make this reggae forum bigger and more interesting than it ever was before.

All these ideas seem like good ones, i can understand why there needs to be some kind of login to protect against spam going in and moderation. I think you dont really want to clutter the site and the album pages either, so some control on the reviews would be good.
