I can't see the sense in that.
If it were purely for investment purposes there are surely better safer areas of business than rare records?
If purely about the music, surely there is another source?
If just one of those, "i must have have it and hold it in my hands" things, then well, if that person could really afford it, what can I say? Hope it was worth it!

the seller didn't sell it for $2000, the price went UP to $2000 based on all the bids. the starting bid was much lower.
an original of this 45 is incredibly rare and hard to find, and could even fetch a price this high (i would never pay so much, mind you!) but there have been a few that have been popping up lately on ebay (saw one on there yesterday), so there is surely some bootlegging going on in JA (not the first time, either, a number of highly prized ska tunes have been booted over the past few years)
also remember, as a record collector myself, there are guys that have been collecting this music for several decades and have crazy collections, and a tune like this that seemingly comes along once in a lifetime files a crucial gap in a collection. not saying i'd drop that money on a 45 like this, but i think we can all relate to buying something, not even just music, that we deem a little more special and a little more valuable to us if we have the means, ya know? whatever it may be (shoes, a car, a stereo, a watch, food, etc)

The tune isn't *better* than many other great Don Drummond sides. I would have to believe that it's because Bellvue is the sanitorium where he was sent after killing his lover, and where he passed away.
So it would be "significant" in the same way a Nirvana record called "Suicide Note" would be, and sell for a ridiculous sum of money, regardless of the quality of the tune.

I went on Popsike and searched for the Nirvana-tune.

... you was apparently only making an example ... and now I feel stupid.
