just wanted to ask something... i've recently been getting into purpleman, and i have a few of his albums ('yellow, the purple and the nancy', 'saves poppa tullo', 'showdown vol 5', and 'dj confontation') but of the stuff that i havent got, i am most interested in getting hold of 'sly and robbie / taxi gang and friends' 'hot' and 'confessions'

has anybody heard them, have any thoughts on them? also does anybody have an idea of how much they run on vinyl and if they have ever been reissued?

cheers!

Hot and Confessions are both excellent albums. Confessions more than Hot I think. It differs from day to day though - depending on my mood. But I would certainly recommend both of them. Rhythms on Confession are by U Brown and it tends to go on the minor chord side of melodies. It does share some songs with the DJ Confrontation I think. Hot is produced by Jammy and you can imagine how good it sounds. Both albums share on song though - Session Inna Westmoreland is the same as Nice Up The Session.

There's also a Purpleman album with Sister Candy. It is also fantastic but it draws mostly songs from his Saves Popa Tullo and Sister Candys »Black Culture«. So if you have those you don't need to track that particular one down.

Sly & Robbie + The Taxi Gang v Purpleman & Friends
Hot

These 2 are both really good albums but have bever been re-issued to my knowledge. No idea how rare or expensive originals copies would be.

The mis-credited dj Confrontation I have never heard.

great, thanks for the info. if anyone wants to chime in with rough pricing, that would be great. it's a shame that purpleman doesnt get the props he deserves. i've been trying to track his stuff down ever since i heard 'sandra dee...' on a rub a dub compilation...

I'm very into u browns stuff, so i'm sure that 'confessions' will be well worth picking up. does anyone know what happened to purpleman by the way? the discography just seems to stop in the mid 80s, and i've never heard anything definite either way regarding if he's still making music / performing.

confessions is killer. . . has all the same riddims as wayne smith - youthman skanking lp. . . . and he also goes over that norman soloman - joy bells ringing riddim. . one of my favorite dj lp's. . .

Hot is quite expensive I think so be prepared to pay at least £20 for it ... Confessions I think you can find for £13-£15 if you're lucky.

The reason I haven't picked up The Taxi Gang and friends yet is because a friend has it and it didn't sound that exciting when I listened to it. Would still like to have it ... but I'm not ready to pay $30 or so for it as it commands on eBay.

Purple saves Papa Tullo however ... that one I really miss. The others I have.

OK Sly & Robbie + The Taxi gang Vs. Purpleman & Friends... side one is all roots singers Derrick Morgan, Jackie Edwards, & Cornell Campbell.. It's not bad
Side 2 consists of 3 Purpleman tunes one in which he duets with Papa Tullo on " The Chemist & Apprentice. This is a great tune..the other 2 are "Me ago Nice up the area" & "Purpleman Ago Boom it up". Then we have John Wayne- Me cool, Useless Johnnie by Sister Candy & Lord Sassafrost with Check the Boss. Produced by Bunny Lee On Vista Sounds VSLP 4012... Very Nice LP I have a copy of it and I'm looking at it as I right this... Anyway I think It would be sold for between $25.00- 75.00 depending on were you look. This album I own has a ton of personal value in it and it is not for sale. I'm interested in that Dj Confrontation LP with Ubrown though. Non Vinyl format doesn't really bother me, Hit me up on a personal level to talk...

I think Purpleman is still alive and kicking it in JA. I think the cats at Deadly Dragon were hanging out with him not to long ago, If I correctly Recolect...

i only have confessions, and it is good. a few tunes are yellowman (i believe) but most are sir purp.

there one's tune on there, No Luck In Trafficating, that is a KILLER. i drop that a few times a year at my monthly night and it always goes over big.
