Mikey Dread Radio Shows

Post by Rootsman »

Dont know if anyone is interested but I was in Sound of The Universe record shop today.

They were selling CDs of Mikey Dreads JBC radio shows from 1978.

Not sure what the score was with them but I assume they must be legit to sell in a record shop (or am I just naive).

No idea what they are like as I never made the purchase.

Anyway, just thought i`d mention it.

Leggo,

Yep, I was treating myself at Honest Jons, Sounds of the Universe and a few other little shops.

I found out last week that my company had just been awarded a new 10 year contract with National Grid which is obviously great news for me.

Its been real stressful waiting to find out if I would still have a job in the new year, so I guess the outpouring of relief was from my wallet as well as my body.

Anyway Leggo, these CDS were definately on their shelves. The Hand written cover said "Mikey Dread 1978 radio shows available on CD, limited numbers, please ask for further details".

I have no idea of label or whether they wre CDS or CDRS. I assumed they were pucker as would a shop be allowed to sell rips ?

Hey Leggo

I have never been self employed so I am in no position to judge or comment on the stressful nature of that type of work environment.

I have been fortunate enough to have been in unbroken employment since leaving school in 1979 and this is the first time I have ever been in a postion of possibly being out of a job.

For me that was extremely unsettling and stressful, if being self employed means facing those stresses on a regular basis then I greatly admire anyone that can work for themselves.

But then I am sure there are also perks and job satisfaction that come from being self employed that ou dont get from working for an organisation.

Swings and roundabouts as they say :D

Any news on the DATC Shows? I'd like to know if there are more shows in decent quality out there cause Mikey mixed it like no one else.
I just got the JBC X-Mas Show 1978 they have at "Who Cork The Dance?". In a thread some weeks/months ago, someone said he had more tapes - but not digitalized yet. Sadly i never heard of him afterwards.. Some informations would be much appreciated!
A merry X-Mas from Germany!

Just picked up one of these and they definitely aren't what I would call legit. The cover is a paper *envelope* and the CD is an unmarked CD-R. The only writing on the cover is "Mikey Dread At JBC Radio Christmas 1978, Jamaica".

I was told it was made by someone who had recorded the show back in the day. It is one continuous 77 track and the sound quality is as you would expect. I am told there is some *drop out*, but can't confirm as I've only listened to about 10 minutes of it.
They have 3 left and I am being told no more are being made. Not sure why that would be. Maybe someone has agreed copyright for it. If so apologies for assuming otherwise.

20 minutes in and I have had to turn it off. Unlistenable. Avoid!

Thanks Simon

You`ve saved me a job :D

You have also confirmed that they were on sale and not something I have made up.

Which, unfortunatly, was the vibe I got from a certain tone within this thread.

Have a good one my man.
