We all know what happens to records left in the sun but is there anything adverse that happens leaving them in cold conditions?

I can`t answer your question there 7 , but I can tell you that cartridges don`t like the cold ! The cantilever suspension and damping need to be at about 65 degrees plus to work properly . My current cartridge specifies that 72 degrees is its optimum playing temperature .

Speaker surrounds need to be supple to work properly , also . I suppose it`s a bit like us human`s . We`re not as active , when we`re cold !

I'm tempted to leave an old album out in the garden overnight to see what happens. Just hope the mutt doesn't think it's a big bit of liquorice and eats it!

I agree with _Anorak Trev_ on this one regarding room temperature. Also, I remember reading, in a hifi mag, that if you play music on a Sunday morning then you'll hear it at its best. This, apparently, is due to the fact that there is less strain on the grid and the feed into your system is more stable. In my case it sounds better because there is less traffic going past my flat which is on a busy road and my partner is still in bed!

from past experience of living in a very damp place - (not particularly cold though) - damp is the worst in terms of long term storage - mould/mildew is a big problem if it takes a liking to your grooves.
Thankfully no longer living in a bog...
All I can imagine extreme cold doing is making the vinyl brittle and more prone to cracking or breaking if dropped - but you wouldn't be dropping them, now would you.

Does vinyl shrink in and significant way when super-cooled? I'm guessing no...
