I remember; He had his locks still long; Long time he hadn't been in the US; Opening act was Peter Broggs dressed in white; Gregory Isaacs was monumental with fantastic roots radics backing up I believe; What a show; It was a gymnasium if I recall correctly; He was full on, probably looking to regain popularity; Have seen him countless times since, and he can still pull some performance, but never was he that good.

that was probably at around the same time he appeared in oakland california, reunion with roots radics. unfortunately, gregory did not have a work visa evidently as he only came out and waved hello to the crowd and left the stage.

it had been announced at the door that gregory would not be appearing but radics would still. so they cut the price to 5$, radics did their warm up set, then went into a "gregory in dub" set, essentially what they would back gregory with but with some more effects thrown in, and its during that part that gregory surprised everyone by actually being there, as most presumably thought he was holed up in a hotel room somewhere doing what he did best evidently, but no, gregory was there but couldnt speak into the mike evidently. i was talking with flabba outside quite a bit later and he told me it was all cleared up and they were going to reschedule this date and leave for hawaii the next day. evidently gregory never showed in hawaii but the next week or so they did do LA and it went off ok (probably the show you mean) and then redid the oakland date, also ok, but i think things fell apart shortly thereafter and evidently the rest of the tour was cancelled.

i didnt see the rescheduled show since i came down with the flu that night but i heard it was a killer. cant hardly beat gregory and "gregory isaacs outfit" radics; its just a shame gregory flaked so much.

one love

I saw Gregory last year in Cardiff, I was really unsure what to expect, due to the fact his troubles are no secret and he failed to show up to the shows in Ireland a few days earlier...

I was really stunned, the man tore it down...amazing show..and not short either....he smashed relentlessly through classic after classic...

extra classic

The show in 92 at the gymnasium, I believe was the shocking vibes or shocking something tour. Small gymnasium. Think it was the memorial hall or something been so long. I believe I still have the original flyer. Yes he tore down the place with roots radics. There were countless times that he was supposed to come down that year but he had visa problems. People got fed up and didn't believe was going to show up again. So not many people showed up. I'm glad I was one of the few that did make it. His best performance in LA.

Funny Pisces we were in the same place at the same time; ...; I only pent 4 months in L.A - am based in Switz. - and recall listening to a reggae radio on the way to the concert that was describing Mr Isaacs every move since arrival in L.A; I also recall Peter Broggs opening the show and YES indeed there weren't that many people. Not a fan of Peter Broggs live; Don't have many of his LPs; I'll start another thread on this topic!

Cheers!!!!
