RECORDS OR CD'S

This is a very difficult discussion coz personallly i like records, there is nothing more exciting than hearing "ruffles" from the speaker when records are playing, even though the Cd's are much faster.

Speaking of records does anybody know where i could find Micheal Palmer's records from star performer, Angella and the rest

I sold half of my 80's records but kept the good ones to hang on my wall as artwork. I made sure I had it on digitized them before I got rid of the record.

CDs take less space and I keep them all back up on gigs of hard drives. I'm in process of backing up them all up on big hard drive.

Hmmm...I think I have that Michael Palmer record somewhere..found it at used record shop for 1.99 while back.

Hey Roddy,

I might have those. I know at one time I did. I have to dig through the stacks and see if those titles are still around. If they are I would be happy to sell them to you.

I'll try to check them tomorrow. It's late now and I'm about to go to sleep.

Check you later.

John

Vinyl is warm, rich and analogue (which our ears understand).

Keep your records well, and professionaly clean them and they are usually clear and crisp sounding too.

In comparison, CDs sound fake, MP3s are like razor blades being pushed into your ears.

Records take up room, sure, and I love the way they look when you have loads of them racked up in boxes or shelving. My 250gig Lacie HD full of music is a cool bit of hardware but it looks kinda lame compared to a few hundred vinyl records!

Just my own opinion : )

Roddy, bad news I guess I sold off those LP's. The only one I have left is the "star performer" which was a re-issue from about 7-8 or so years ago.

As for the vinyl/CD debate that's a tough one. I do love the magic of listening to an LP. The needle drop and the 1st side flip. It's just more of a experience, and besides the rolled off high end they usually sound better. I will say the new digital technology sounds as good as or better than the analog LP. It's not the same experience but the sound quality is there. I have about 400 reggae LP's and about 500 reggae CD's and I must say that I only listen to the CD's now. I guess since I have little kids I just don't deal with the process of playing LP's anymore. Maybe if I was on the radio again I might spin the LP's. Then again, I might just use my iPod and save my back the hassle of carrying stacks of vinyl.

For me as long as the music plays life is good. If I only had FM radio I could be happy as long as it was 24/7 roots reggae!!

Maybe if you don't play them 400LPs anymore you'd sell them so they can get dusted off and played!

I have CDs, maybe 300 and also I guess 400 Lps, I dunno, I can't be bothered to count them --- but I only listen to CDs in the car or via the iPod if out and about.

But if there is a record deck to hand, I'll spin vinyl on it as first choice - always.

casette? Nah! Always breaking and such a pain to get to the track you want to hear - winding and rewinding!

Although I just found a tape of some old Wackies 45s recorded by a friend in the early 80s and I'm playing it over and over in the car. So I have to thank the Casette for something...

Maybe I'll get around to digitising and posting some of the tunes so people can help me identify the ones I don't recognise. Awesome Wackies stuff!

Hi,

I had approx 500 Reggae LP`s / 12" singles circa mid 70`s - early 80s and approx 800 jazz albums circa mid 50`s - early 70`s.

When my family came along and space became a problem I sold, over a period of time, my entire collection and began replacing them on CD.

This has to be the greatest mistake I have ever made and something I have deeply regretted ever since.

As mentioned by others, CD`s take up less space. But the warm sound, feel and sense of pride one gets from owning vinyl (especially when original issues) cannot be beaten.

Other problem i`ve found, more so with my reggae than jazz albums, is that many of them have never been re-issued on CD.

So friends, don`t make the same mistake I made. Hold onto to your vinyl as you will never appreciate it as much as when you haven`t got it anymore.

Respect

Dave

[Remastered] Jazz on CD sounds amazing.
[Remastered] Reggae on CD is another matter.
