GOOD PEOPLE!

Would you be so kind to mention the most roots (not lovers or old school dancehall) sounding albums by Vivian Jones. Jah Works with Shaka and Bank Robbery are pure fire. Something else like that. Something else with SHAKA?

Thank you for taking the time and helping out another man. BLESS

look for the single "dustbin material" too...

a relatively recent release, vivian jones 50th (50th what i dont know...) is very nice in a cou$ins style, meaning him singing over relicks of classic riddims probably from mafia and fluxy.

reality life is another very decent album.

ah the centenery one i was trying to think of above is called "the king". i believe a couple of the tracks were redone on later releases, maybe bank robbery (flash it and gwan, no fess for sess or whatever its called)...

and if you find this album:

its got a great version of got a light on it under the name this man pt 1 & 2.

dont think he released any other albums with shaka other than that one though.

Just picked up two roots albums by Vivian Jones. Big leaders and Iyaman.

On Big LEaders as a singer Vivian Jones is nice as always. The tunes are (unreleased? and) mostly from the late 70s and are good songs. The problem is that they were recorded a few years ago and the sound is terrible! Modern plastic sound as I would say.

The other I bought is Iyaman which is from 1994 and a real killer. Includes a version of flash it and gwaan, a super tune called caan come a roots and other. The sound is not from the 70s but is okay!

I also listened to the 50th album. Like Jah Bill said classic riddims inna old man style. Good album but not my cup of herbs. The opener King almighty is fire though!

Gotta look for the King, and Reality life albums, thanks for the tips Jah Bill! The discogs link didn't work for me which òther album do you mean?

ernie b has iyahman on cd currently in stock and also has the original lp for 80US$ so that one is a no brainer (as in no buyer).

ps: im not sure the songs from big leaders are from the 70s but the music is definately later in origin. its not overly modern (as in computer music) but there are some electronics in there. ernie b has the dub version release on LP right now too but since you didnt like the music i doubt you would love it.

"the king" has a lot of modern sound to it as well so maybe not your cuppa either.

My favorite Vivian Jones is Who's Gonna Get Caught on Virgo Stomach VG 1003 with a great horns version on the flip by Locks Lee. Also Ites Gold And Green from Jah Works gets me every time - amazing track

By the by the link above at Discogs is drummer Charlie Eskimo Fox - Nottorius - Alter Riddim album from 2004. Neat version and Dub of Got A Light. This is an excellent album all round and was 20 years in the making ;o)
