Can you identify this rhythm? Is it based on an oldie? Seems to me it probably is.

Very similar to:
Marcia Griffiths - Melody Life
and
Bob Andy - Desperate Lover
but slightly different (no chord changes?)

In 1998 Jahmali recorded a track (Conscious Lover) on the same riddim . Just like Daville's Il be your best friend (2007/8 release) it was a Penthouse production (Donovan Germain).
I also think it is based on an oldie (but at the moment I don't know on which riddim). Hopes this helps.

It seems to be the Love is a Message riddim (1998)produced by Donovan Germain.
riddim played by Mafia & Fluxy, Dean Fraser
original cut (also named Let Me Love You) by Jacob Miller for Studio On in 1968
