What are the legal parameters of sharing music files?

I've been asked kindly not to put up music files (partial or otherwise) and will sholeheartedly obey, but what are the legal parameters for partial music files? What if I made a mix of 2 songs and said to check out the second one?

I suppose keeping all discussion of sharing in private messages would probably what the RA would prefer.

Thing is, I don't share tunes. I just offer partial clips for information when someone else is asking. I don't listen to music on the computer and have about as many MP3's (most likely WAV's) as you could count on one hand.

I respect the sites wishes, but wonder why everything is so hush hush. It's like were at the library and I'm drunk.

You're drunk at the library! Cool!
I am neither drunk nor at the library which is now closed, but the other part is still possible!

I didn't mean to speak for RA. And anyway I can't. But generally most websites want to avoid legal issues regardless of whether activities fall within 'fair use' rules. No one wants a law suit or a threat of one so I would respect RAs wish to err on the side of extreme caution.

I guess they just want to avoid any claims, because any music download links put up hear regardless of length or mix, the owner can potentially su the website owner. Which is why they ask not to share files, but the other reason may be that they owners don't support sharing music full stop so have decided to stop any kind of file sharing.
