Yes, I have this fine LP. It's clearly very soul-influenced, and there's this incredible warmth to the sound -- not just Devon's voice, but the whole production. The title's a bit of a misnomer -- it's not really very roots-y at all -- but I'd definitely recommend this as the ideal LP to spin after George Faith's *To Be A Lover*.

Any soul covers?

Yes indeed!
Though my pressing is a little strange and different from this one:

[cover=911,1053]

On my lp, matrix is SOLP 1219 and instead of the track "Ganja Brothers" (which is listed on sleeve & label) you can find "Get Ready".
Would be fine with me if there were not changes of speed on that track and the one before ("Make Me Believe In You"). They both sound like back in the days when the batteries on your walkman got low and the tape gets slower.. Gets me mad everytime i listen to this otherwise very nice album.
What are your copies like Dudley & Jonti?
Bless, Nilo

There's "Make Me Believe In You", which is originally a Curtis Mayfield number.

That's interesting, Nilo. My copy has the PSOLP-1000 matrix, and although "Ganja Brothers" is listed on the sleeve as being the final track, the track listing on the label has "People Get Ready" in its place.

The track before "Make Me Believe In You" is the excellent title track, "Roots Music", but it's never sounded like a dying Walkman to me. Will give it another listen to check for dying battery effects. ;)

Although this album is on the Studio One label, it was apparently recorded at "Jamaica Recording Studio, Kingston, Jamaica" -- is that just a generic term that was used for Studio 1 in 1982, or is it a different studio altogether?

IS the Hurts To Be Alone on par? Love that Wailers tune.

Jordance, "Hurts To Be Alone" was transformed into a slow heartbreaking soultune on this LP which i think is working fine.

@Jonti:
It's not "Roots Music" but "Make Me Believe In You" and "People Get Ready" with the walkman-problem. Just horrible considering that these 2 tunes are nice ones.. :(
