Scientist - At the Controls of Dub (1979-80) - legit or crap?

Hi there. Short-time lurker, first time poster here. :)

I bought the Jamaican Recordings release of the above album on CD today, as my very first Scientist album - mainly because it was:

a) in print
b) in stock
c) cheap

Now, after a quick browse of these forums tonight, reading some of the comments about JR's previous releases and the posts from Mr. Scientist himself with regards to his views on the international releases of his works (and bogus stuff with his name on it), it seems that I may have chosen poorly and just become the proud owner of my *very first* bogus reggae record... :(

I like reggae and dub - but I'm far, far, far from being an expert collector. So, have I just paid out good money for old rope here, or what? Did the Scientist actually have any involvement with the production/mixing of this record at all?

If anyone who owns this record (or perhaps even Scientist himself - if he still hangs around here) could clear this up for me, I'd be most grateful. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I usually purchase the 'original' albums, if they're available and won't break the bank - though if it comes down to a choice between a compilation (with a decent tracklisting) costing £8-ish, or buying out-of-print CDs or vinyl costing significantly more, then I'll usually go for the more affordable option.

I don't know what people here think of those Trojan 2CD anthologies here but I've got a fair few of those.

Heh, I'm the guy on eBay who puts in £20 bids for rare 70s LPs and hopes that no-one else notices the auction. I'm not quite ready to put my friends, family, associates, pets and furniture up for sale yet... ;)

So, anyway - it seems as though a heck of a lot of Scientist albums have dropped out of print recently, if sites like Amazon.co.uk are anything to go by (including most of the Greensleeves releases) and silly money is starting to be asked for new copies (lowest price for a new copy of 2006 press of 'Vampires' on Amazon at present is £103.72!). I wonder if this is anything to do with the lawsuit?
