Hey Guys,
I was on this site www.digitaldreamdoor.com and these folks have a top 100 greatest reggae artist list. I was kind of shock to see Chaka Demus and Plyers, Ziggy Marley,Spanner Banner,Sizzla,  Damian Marley,  Buju Banton, Beenie Man,Gentlemen?, Maxi Priest, Shabba Ranks and J.C. Lodge on the list while more notables like Tappa Zukie, Dillinger, Trinity, Owen Gray, Al Campbell, Bim Sherman, Derrick Morgan, Max Romeo, Ansel Collins, Junior Delgado, Madoo, General Echo were missing.To my suggestion the editor added these names,but the ranking is still a bit off.I know the ranking might be a matter of personal opinion, but some artist were producers and writers for others as well. Have a look and comment, maybe some of you could help with the rating.

Sure it was REGGAE ?
It seems anything coming outta JA is put under REGGAE these days!!

Why are so many of you guys in this forum so extremely closed-minded? There are some artist from after 1985 that made (and still make) very good Reggae-Music.

What is it about Ziggy Marley that you find so negative? In the end, it's all about your personal taste of cause, but I think that some guys think they "have to hate" modern Reggae and that they are "not allowed" to like anything new.

I also prefere old school roots music over modern roots, but I personally like Buju Banton's music way more than Yellowman's for example. And even UB40, Alpha Blondy and Eddy Grant have made some very great tunes in their long carrier.

Anyway... don't feel offended please, but sometimes I just don't understand you guys, when it seems that you love everything old and hate everything new.

I do of cause agree with you Frederick that not including Owen Gray and Derrick Morgan in a Top 100 JA Artist List is indeed a bloody shame.

Odd list indeed. I wonder how they were thinking when they chose to include deejays such as Judge Dread and Mad Cobra on the list but entirely neglect significant chatters such as the highly influential Brigadier Jerry or Ninjaman.

I think when doing a list as that one you have not only try to disregard strictly subjective opinions (I prefer to listen to Ranking Dread, Super Cat and Early B in front of I-Roy, U-Roy and Count Machuki but I would never put the former three as more important/great than the latter ones) but also try to find a reason why they are so important to mention.

Have they done any ground breaking material? Have they been consistently good through their career? Has their career been a long and important one for the scene?

I would love to see a 100 greats-list done by some knowledgeable people who write their motivations.

Really. Something like this _should_ be done! And then every week there's a count down from 100 to the #1 (which would take approx. two years!).

Just read their forums, it is obvious they don't have any proper knowledge about reggae. So who cares about their top 100!?

just to add:
not everything from the 70s is gold, but the most stuff is at least above average.

I simply think that there is coming nothing original from Jamaica anymore since a long time. Today's "roots" groups like Morgan heritage with their polished sound also do nothing for me. and ragga is BS to my ears. sorry.
