How often do you listen to other types of music?

Hey all,
I hate to face it, but I think I'm starting to feel my latest epic reggae phase slipping a bit.For roughly about the last 8 months I have literally listened to nothing but reggae. I realize that might not be so 'epic' to some of you, but anyway. It's not my esteem for the music that's changed at all, of course, just my interest/excitement level.
I mean I've loved reggae for about 20 years or so, but I've gone through occasional dry spells of not listening to it much. I'll suddenly get really into jazz or punk or indie (hate that term but don't know what else to call it) or classical, folk or even, at one point, country (!). And just occasionally throw on some reggae.
I tend to be obsessive like that. Like I just listen to one genre at a time constantly until my attention starts to inexplicably wander and I'm on to the next thing. It's like a cycle of some sort. It's really weird this time because I've been so into the stuff I've been listening to I can't figure out why my interest is suddenly starting to wane a little.
Out of nowhere the other night I started listening to my old New Order records and that was the start of it...
So, I wonder, are you able to mix up genres a lot day to day? Do you only listen to reggae? Or, do you sort of cycle through various phases of obsession with one thing, like me? Or something else?
Does it matter?

(don't answer that

)

My experiences are somewhat similiar to leggorockers ! I went through a phase of going out clubbing ,in hindsight probably not wanting to grow old musically , even a mid-life crisis without the crisis !
I have listened to all sorts of contemporary music , mainly leftfield stuff compared with my mates , since the late sixties . Reggae was my prime driver in those days . Then , of all things , I heard some Frank Zappa drifting across a field as I was going to a party ! Suitably impressed by this " weird " stuff I went headlong into a totally different sphere of music !
My taste developed into slightly avant-garde early electronic stuff like Tonto`s Expanding Headband , and this then led me into another different type of music .
Then the bambinos came along . The way we got them off to sleep was by playing Lee Perry cassette tapes while walking around the room . Worked a treat . Got back into reggae again !
Now I listen to 95% reggae , but I don`t forget to play all the other genres of music I have here at Villa D`Court . Orbital and its offshoots , Ry Cooder I was playing last night , excellent . Too many and too much music to mention .
And Flashman , I took myself and my eight and a half month pregnant wife to see New Order , back in the day ! 22 years ago ! Baby was kicking a treat !!!
To cut my boring life story short , I FOUND reggae again about 10 years ago ( not that I had ever lost it ) but yes , I DO listen to other types of music and always will ! (tu)

i listen to mostly reggae but have a huge collection of classic rock, jazz, world, and folk.
i got turned on to reggae in 1980 but by 84 i was hooked on dub and didn't listen to much vocals reggae...here and there, like tosh, spear, some toasting...
yet always enjoyed my rock n roll- 60s and 70s music basically.
i still haven't given that up.
there was a time when i didn't listen to much dub, when i lost all my wax and tapes and swtiched over to cds.
took a short hiatus from listening to mostly dubs and ja music, but always put it on here and there. went thru phases of having my weekly music doses being 25% jamaican to 90% jamaican. believe it or not, i tended to listen to jamaican music in winter a lot.
now, i still listen to mostly ja music but would never turn down some good classic jazz or old rock n roll.
who knows what i mood i will be in in a few months? still prolly mostly ja music but then out of nowhere i may score some good pink floyd bootlegs and they may work into the mix for a while till i come back to my overall favorites- dub sides.

I mostly listen to reggae, but i really enjoy listening to other genres too.
I used to hear lots of underground hip hop but even though i still love that stuff, i don't listen to it much within the past two years.
I often play classic- and progressive-rock nowadays, but i love funk, soul & jazz as well. The last thing that really blasted my head was an afrobeat/ highlife compilation with early Fela Kuti stuff.Check this out, pure energy!!

Oh yeah, I love highlife too!
@Anorak Trev - I saw New Order way back when too! I think maybe it was '84 or '85? Low Life had just come out. Good memories. I think that's the current appeal: nostalgia.
As for what I said above...I don't know, Earthquake Dub is sounding pretty damn great right now

Well, I've not wanted to listen to anything but dub tonight, so maybe I've kept the New Order impulse at bay!
