Can you recommend any LPs that sound as dignified as Joe Higgs' *Life Of Contradiction*? Listening to that album I always get the impression that Higgs was a real gentleman - and I'd like to find other artists who share that quality/sound. Any ideas?

Also check Joe out on the **[Roots, Rock Reggae](

Well it's certainly a fair recommendation, but a) I've already got it and b) it's the *same artist*!

LOL. Well in that case maybe you should have asked a different question.

I've always felt that Leonard Dillon had the same *aura* as Joe Higgs so;

Joe has that voice of authority that sounds like it's coming from high in the sky, he was really quite unique. Another excellent songwriter is Bob Andy, who has some fine work beyond his best-known LP, "Songbook".
Personally I think more people should check Harry Belafonte, perhaps the greatest artist to ever come out of Jamaica. He is an absolute giant, both as an artist, and as a man who lives by his convictions. I grew up with all of his LPs in the house, as he was a HUGE star in the late 50's and early sixties. The introduction to his music started my love and fascination for Jamaican sounds.

Yeah watched again Roots Rock Reggae yesterday... Joe's just incredible.
I have that kind of feeling with Willie Williams... Messenger Man LP should do it... The early jamaican sound of Ijahman (Heavy Load 1st version, Chariot of Love, Africa...) has a bit of this humanity with strong faith too...

He has a very different sounding voice but I would recommend Bim Sherman, I think his music has a very dignified quality (just my feeling, hard to put it into words). Maybe it's because like Higgs, Sherman's phrasing is masterful.
Check the Tribulation set on Pressure Sounds.
