What went wrong....
> Bunny Wailer has created some of the best stuff in 70's and early 80's, followed by the most disastrous music imaginable. Try, for the fun: Just be nice, Communication, Gumption!!!!!
> Mighty Diamonds past the 80's have created a few good 12" and 7" here and there, but you're guaranteed to some fun LPs and tunes in general
> Gregory Isaacs post 80's: "1 album a week takes the pleasure away" lordy, lordy
Your turn!

I tend to like the mixing done by Scientist in the digital era. Thinking of the stuff he did for the Kibwe label in the US.

Cultural Warriors Music label has just released re-works of some old tunes:
Leroy Smart - Jahovia.
Earl Zero - Righteous Works.
Ras Michael - None Of Jah Jah Children No Cry.
Cornell Campbell - Natty Don`t Do.
http://www.culturalwarriors.net/real/site.html sound clips in the Cultural Warriors new singles box.
To me it don`t have nothing to do with reggae, very easy listening, middle of the road music. I can`t get my head around the remade digital rhythms that I think lets it all down. Aslo the singers sound like they they don`t care and not putting their heart and soul into it and just getting paid. Well polished over produced. Give me the originals anyday.
peace

Come on all you new studios and producers, start making some original rhythms to get the singers interested and stop doing cover versions!!

In my experience, artists are more interested in voicing the same old riddims ( this is another subject anyway )
"Artists that lost it past the golden era...."
Depending on your definition of "golden". If you mean 60's, 70's and early 80's.... then all of them, no exception.
Or we can put it this way:
Artists that improved after the golden era?

Maybe an exception is Glen Washington? After his introduction on the scene in the late 70's, he toiled away in relative obscurity here in Toronto until his success in the 90's.

In fact, I now really start to believe the right question is indeed: "which artist from the golden era kept a high standard in the 90's and today?..."
Most didn't. Although a song here and there, perhaps even one or two albums, magic was gone.
Perhaps past the two sevens clash, that was it 5-=6 years after...
What is amazing is how terrible some of the output has been in the late 80's and 90's; Just mind boggling.
Nowadays, the only band in my opinion able to deliver roots with quality is Midnite (Ras Mek Peace) and Dezarie.
Burning Spear, with all due respect, is doing good stuff here and there, but, again, the vibe, the magic is rarely present.
Wanna have some "fun"?... Check the Gladiators output past the Nighthawk era. Pioneers: check the stuff they managed to record in 80's and 90's; A disaster. D Brown, Culture, G Isaacs all performed below expectations...
Maybe be past 2010 the ones still alive return with a vengeance!
