does someone knows a band once called moja nya,they were a group made up mainly of dominicans living in new york;i had a chance to see them here in senegal back in december of 1987 on goree island.they had some songs like"revelation sound","are you really roots" and covers of aswad(pass the cup)peter tosh(legalize it)bob(get up stand up).i heard that they made a terrible car crash on the road one day while coming from a gig somewhere in the us,accident which made a heavy toll on the band living some members crippled and another dead.i just saw them on the play list of some of doug"the midnight dread"wendt,but i don't think that back at that time,they had released any lp of their own.desi hyson their keyboardist and vocalist too has been touring with joseph hill and can be seen playing keyboards in his live in south africa.i would be very glad to have some of their tracks

Thanks for asking. I was part of the group. We did have an accident. Every body survived. We have all gone our seperate ways and doing very well. Ask for myself, I've been on tours with Joseph Hill and Culture and now with The Original Wailers. Also working on a new project. You can find me on myspace. Jumbo Carribean 12" - Moja Nya - freedom for trots/Jah Guide. Last week a copy was sold for 130 US dollar.

I remember them playing at my university in the late '80's, in upstate New York USA. Thoroughly enjoyed them!

Is Moja Nya same group as Moja?
I have a negus Roots 12" NERT26 with tune "Foreign Mind" by Moja...Phillip Fraser on the flip side. It is a Barry Clarke production.

good to see that this thread i opened 3 years ago prompted reaction ultimately.it really comforts me in my belief that this RA forum is the best by any query or topic test LOL.
indeed desi i still remember this concert we watched on the eve of christmas holidays(probably around december 23rd 1987).i remember that a university mate and friend,me and you guys travelled back from goree island on the last rotation of the ferry around along with RAK the wicked bass player and vocaklist(ah "pass the cup") 1:30 am. still can remeber you shouting that catchprase'moja nya gonna set fire in senegal"even some of my friends who saw you performing at the hotel resort in saly portudal are still remembering it as one of the highlights of that decade.there is a brazilian cameran who shot the concert and don't really know what became of that stuff. sitting in the can somewhere probably and waiting for you guys to reunite and hiot the road again?i would love too.
i really look forward to this day.
