Hi,

Can anyone tell me the Sammy Dread album titled "Road Block" is any good. I am primarly interested in the title track but wondered if the rest of the album was worthwhile.

I was previously thinking about picking it up on the "Channel One Story" but already own most of the tracks on that release.

Any advise please.

Respect and thanks

Dave

Nice album from start to finish. The music consist of classic rythms (but a bit overly familiar at times)and Sammy vocals are clear, mellow and strong. Undoubtedly the the best-known track is Roadbloack, Rude boy a fire m 16 is one of my favourites and Jah guide is also inspirational, everything backed by the solid roots radics band and recorded in the legendary Channel one studio. The cover art is very good also.
If you like this one then you should try the Stronger Than Before album.
bless

Yes it's strictly rub a dub style. To be honest, not one of my favourite albums, but songs like Jah Guide, Rude Boy A Fire M 16 and come back darling are hot.

The best thing about it is the cover art, besides a couple of good (above mentioned) songs I think it's over-all pretty weak.

I strongly disagree,
Sammy brings it hard on Wrap Up a Draw, Top of the Pops, Truths & Rights. Some of my favorite roots cuts of all-time.

I've got to second rcdupre. The album never really did it for me. Excellent cover art though! Courtesy of Jaamaal Pete I think.

In my opinion Mr. Music is the hardest because it has two of my favorite songs on it. None of his albums are tight the whole way thru but in reality how many artists albums are? You can make a best of compilation of Sammy's work and put it up there with most artists.
