RKR now online

Well, we all know that Roots Archives is the best place on the net to find out about reggae albums. Now, there's a place online to find out about all the 7", 10" and 12" singles (Even a few old 78 rpm records in there too!)

http://www.rootsknottyroots.com

Maybe one day we can catch up to the level of quality that roots archives is achieving.

Let me know your thoughts on the site. How's the search mechanism work for you? Does the site navigation work well for you? Do you like the colors/design, etc...

RKR is great stuff. It has helped me many times already though it obviously wasn't officially online yet?

Especially with title searches it would be good to have the possibility to combine search terms or is there and I haven't found out how?

Otherwise site looks and works fine for me.

It would be great if over time more tunes beyond the mid 80s could be included. I saw e.g. Rub A Dub Rebels is in there with two tunes (the two tunes by them I know), but you cannot click on their name to find out if they still had other releases.

@jordandance Um, we're not selling anything, we're letting you know about another reggae resource.

@adilisha: I'll work on an advanced search capability. We also will soon have many, many more post 80s singles added in our next update.

@Lion: We're working out a way we can handle submissions and confirm the info provided.

It's not marketing for selling RKR?

RKR is no longer available for sale. The CD-ROMs and books are both out of print and the updated database is being moved online.

Seems like a pretty comprehensive resource, though it would be even better if each entry had, say, a 30-second sound clip and a photo of the label. Also, if there was a way to rate singles or leave comments about them (a la Discogs), that could make the whole thing even more involved. There are soooooo many 7s and 12s out there, but so few reviews/descriptions of the music on them...

Anyway, looks like this could complement R-A's LP focus nicely.

@Jonti I'd love to add labels as time goes along, but that will require a lot of help from contributors. The people gathering the data didn't include label scans as part of their process, so we'd have to start that effort from scratch.

Likewise on the sound clips. The biggest issue there I think is the legality of the matter. We'd have to look very hard at what is permissible before taking on something like that.

I like the idea of comments and such on singles, though that may be a real headache to moderate. We'll see.
