Picked this up this up years ago and never really gave it a spin.
Was listening recently and can almost swear these are voice overs.

Can anyone confirm that this album is indeed vintage riddims/2000 vocals?
Thanks!

i can't answer your question but to me it seems like ALOT of music i have associated with Mike Brooks has that same voice over quality you mention.

vinyl is on gatefold sleeve but not a double LP...it's really a long time u don't pick it up...lol...taking a quick read at it it doesn't seem to be voiced in 2000...it's just a compilation of songs gathered in the moll-selekta way in recent times...so i'd say definitively it's not...cheers

Most of the tracks on this one is indeed new voicings on vintage riddims. One exception is the title track, which is all vintage (but not recorded at Black Ark as sleeve says). Can't remember if any of the other tracks are all vintage.

"The Earth Is The Fullness" tune is rumoured to be REAL black ark tune, unlike the "Solid Ground" album.

That same "Voice over" qulity in sound that yuo guys mention is the same reason why I just couldn't get into some of his TEAMS label releases in the past decade...like the Anthony Johnson, & RZ Jackson LP's. Great Music (regarding the older riddims), but poor voice over sound. I'm not sure wether or not this is Mikie Brooks signature voice recording technique, but it does seem apparent in many of his own productions. Even though I do not hear this on his older releases, Like his One Love LP and Rum Drinker LP - where he uses many of these same riddims on his own productions (I assume he owns the riddims).
Side note: Funny though, because I thought this same thing about the more recent release of some of those Negus Roots 10"s...Obviously not on the classic recordings like LAcksley Castell's Gov. Man, but more like on the Earl 16 and Horace Martin songs..Very Disappointed with the voice sound - but the riddims are still killer!!!..anybody else think so?

imet: My source is my own ears, the voicing simply don't sound like it's from the 70s.
Visitor: The song "The Earth Is The Fullness" on the Moll-Selekta release doesn't sound Black Ark-recorded at all to my normally very Ark-sensitive ears. However, another 7" released on Mike Brooks Harvest label mislabeled as "The Earth Is The Fullness" is indeed and without doubt recorded at the Black Ark ca 1976. That's probably where the "rumour" comes from.

Davve: I have heard a sample from the 7" inch and it is the same one as in this "The Earth Is The Fullness" on Moll-Selekta release. To me it doesn't sound very Black Ark-ish, also.
