No, two entirely different entertainers. Nor was Tonto Ranger's "side kick", they traveled in different posses.

"tonto" means something completely different in spanish!
First time I heard the name in the 80s, thought it was funny!

Very different styles indeed. But Tonto was the tv series Lone Rangers assistant. So maybe that's how the Tonto in Tonto Irie was diceded.
