I know I should probably post this on an audio forum but most people on those places don't drive thundering bass through their equipment! So anyway, on the really bass-heavy records I find that the woofers on my Technics speakers visibly vibrate a bit. I just want to know if that's normal and OK - or is there some problem with the speakers?

Anyone?

It's perfectly in time to the bass. My turntable is isolated so I don't think that's the cause....

Don`t fret about it Geoffrey , the only time it is a problem is when your cones start to " crack " which means you are at the limit of your bass cone excursion ! All woofers have a flexible surround , usually made of some kind of rubber . Older speakers sometimes have age related degradation here , which could cause a problem .

When playing vinyl , occasionly on the run-in groove you will see your bass cones flapping . This is due to sub-hertz frequencies coming off your record deck .

As long as there isn`t " distortion " in the bass when you are playing tunes , carry on ! If there is , just back the volume off a bit . It`s better to listen at a lower volume than have to buy a new set of speakers (tu)
