itunes as been releasing a lot of old roots records. Unfortunatly most of them are vinyl rip. Labels like VP, Taxi, Pressure Sounds are re-releasing old records, converting them into mp3's and selling them.
I recently bought Sly & Robbie presents Gregory Isaacs and it's full of scratches.
what do you think about this? do you think it's ok to spend $10 on a vinyl rip?

Let me know what you guys think about this.

unfortunateley, the majority of Jamaican tapes have been lost/destroyed/ruined/taped over etc. So a lot of classic records are only available as vinyl rips. Sometimes it sounds ok (soul jazz, heartbeat, pressure sounds) if they clean up the sound, but a lot of records are just being transferred on cd without any tiem and money being spend to make the sounds audible, it's all in the budgets i guess.

Sometimes a vinyl rip sounds better than overprocessed, noise-gated rubbish and attempts at 'remastering' or cleaning up.

I've got a CD with some tunes definitely ripped from vinyl which were obviously done using a high end setup and I'd rather put up with some 'authentic' (!) crackle and pop and an underlying clean, dynamic sound than something that sounds like it's been recorded through a pillow.

So no, I don't object to 'clean' vinyl to cd albums being sold commercially and I don't feel ripped off.

The re-issue of Revolution Dub on the Dutch/UK Anachron label was of real bad quality.
Unfortunately it's the only issue I have myself. WIsh I had the Cactus release myself !

Well..Talking about a company like Apple...Who is monopolizing the digital market with Itunes. They claim to be high quality!!...256k to me is not Hight Quality..320k is..
And about remastering?..i have the original vinyl of Bunny Wailer's Blackheart man and the CD version. It was recently released as a Remastered Edition in digital format...Sorry to say..They messed it up...
