Jr. Byles Auntie Lulu drummer

We've had various drummer discussions here but I couldn't find the perfect thread for this, so: Just listened to Auntie Lulu by Jr. Byles (on the Trojan comp When Will Better Come) and was blown away by the drumming. Not only are there a couple totally over the top fills but the drummer is going crazy on the kick drum almost the whole time. I'd love to know who drums on this track so I can know who I'm supposed to worship. Anyone?

Thanks!!! I sort of suspected that. He's a bit like Carly Barrett, they both really can get down with the kick drum, but I've always wondered when it's Carly and when it's Tin Legs. I think Tin Legs sounds a little less disciplined and prone to big outbursts, which I f*ckn love. I almost never see him listed on album credits. I'm starting to think whenever I'm struck by the drumming on a record and there's no credits I should just assume it's Tin Legs!

Hello, I think I have some arguments to say that the drummer who plays in Auntie Lu Lu is Carlton Barrett. I go beyond saying that this song was recorded in the same session/period that Augustus Pablo Frozen Dub/Cassava Piece. I'm not expert on the AP discography, but I'd say that Frozen Dub and Cassava Piece were released originally on the Hot Stuff label in 1972/73, while the pama single of auntie lu lu appeared in 1973, so initially the dates for these songs fit perfectly. What made me came to that conclusion is the similar way of drumming in these three songs. In auntie lu lu you can listen like 5 solid drumbeats that appear aproximately in the following times
00:13
01:16
01:23
01:30
02:13
The first two drumbeats on auntie lu lu are very similar, specially the intro's one, to this played in the intro of frozen dub. The third is practically the same that the one appearing at 00:37 of Linval Thompson's 'Whip Them King Tubby' (which is one of the vocal version of cassava piece). The other two drumbeats are simply variations of this particular drumming style that, at least for me, share these three certain songs. I took the times written above from the following sources.

This is a very interesting topic, I just wait for your commentaries. Best Regards

Tinlegs is the drummer on Frozen Soul / Frozen Dub / Cassava Piece (both cuts) and Auntie Lulu.
Pablo didn't credit every musician on his sessions, loads of uncredited musicians took part.
Probably only credited Carlie and Familyman (because of the Wailers fame)....or it could have been the guys at Greensleves records (?)

Linval Thompson's "Whip Them King Tubby" isn't the first vocal on the rhythm track. You can hear some reverb overdubs.
I thought Carly & Familyman left from the Upsetter stable by the year 1973, and joined the Bob & The Wailers. Right?

Is Lloyd Adams the drummer that is playing in most of the songs released in the This Is Augustus Pablo album? If so, let me doubt about his presence in these three recordings (auntie lu lu, frozen dub or cassava piece). Like Flashman well said "I think Tin Legs sounds a little less disciplined and prone to big outbursts," and in my opinion the drumming style on lloyd's tracks in this is ap album is quite far in style than in those three ones we are commenting right now. Carlie had a very solid and compact drumbeat and in my opinion this is the main characteristic to recognise him among all the reggae drummers. Carlton was (and I think he still is) technically the best reggae drummer, althought sometimes, specially when you are listening a certain song without drumbeats, you can confuse his style with Lloyd Adams or also with Carlton Davis.
On the other hand, I tend to think that the first vocal to cassava piece was Jacob's 'Baby I Love You So' and Linval's Thompson vocal came after it. Anyway, I think that for this last one they used the instrumental's original cut, since jacob's one is just 2.30 while the linval's thompson take goes to 3.05. Pablo is playing the melodica on 'King tubby meets rockers uptown' (dub of jacob's vocal) while in whipping version (dub of linval's vocal) there is no melodica, that's why I think they used the raw instrumental, the original cut.
I've not listened the whole ap disco yet, but in the records I've listened I think that Carlie is playing in the following songs
East Of The Rive Nile
Hot & Cold
Pablo In Dub
Frozen Dub
Cassava Piece
Skanking Easy
Corner Crew Dub
Natural Way
Up Warricka Hill
Tubby's Dub Song
AP Special
Stop Them Jah
New Style
Rockers Meet King Tubby In A Fire House
And I have my doubts in the following three tracks: Herbal Weed Dub, Java, Guiding Red. My question is the following, do all these tracks have their corresponding vocal version? and if so, which is the original vocal version for all these tracks? It's a question that I've always had, and now I'm in the point in which I think that AP played with his melodica over already existing instrumentals/vocals songs. Any possible help would be appreaciated.

@flashman
Thanks for bringing this up. This is one of my favorite Junior Byles tracks and Tin Legs totally drives the mood. A lot of people ask me who the drummer is when I play the track. Now I have an answer.
