Advice on making a Reggae Collection

So I've been working on my Reggae collection for a few years now, and I have some serious reggae.

I like Early Dancehall Rubadub, Deejaying the most.
Also roots, rocksteady, and conscious dancehall are up there.

I have my favorite artists such as:
Mikey Dread, Cornell Campbell, Josey Wales, Sizzla, Lone Ranger, Tenor Saw, Jacob Miller, Kiddus I, Yellowman, Don Carlos, Joe Higgs, Mighty Diamonds, Bunny Wailer, Clinton Fearon, and many more.

I put everything on iTunes and make my own CD's from my organized playlists.

Now, I know one of my next steps, will just be gaining experience over the next every year of the rest of my life, until my project finally becomes ripe. At this point my collection isn't organized enough, and there are many holes, pieces I'm missing.

But, when I go to a show they usually have a playlist of various artists before the show, and it usually sounds amazing, and I want those songs.

Anyone share anyways they found to expand their collection to something greater; avoiding the filler and finding the vibes?

Well, I would start buying the Blood & Fire releases, Pressure Sounds releases, Greensleeves/VP re-releases, Makasounds etc etc. Those guys are doing a great job and most of it is available in (web)stores.
Those guys hardly release fillers, only killers.

It is a life's work my friend and will not come to you straight away. There are many many helpful reissues out there now, but you cannot beat the joy of finding a classic on 7", playing it and turning it over for the version.

Try hunting through emusic - a surprising and growing amount of classic (and new) reggae to download on there); or Patate Records in France

Bless

try listening to some roots online radio stations, i often find some killa tracks while listening to online stations, it's a good way to find tunes u like and new artists.

Also you might wanna check these reggae forums roots archives+blood+fire to search threads on Killa Tunes.. buy them all! and u won't go far wrong....

I started out just like u and definitley reccomend all the B+F collection, they done a wicked job of reviving the roots scene in Europe. In the end i found that i had collected way too much audio and i stopped seriously collectiong audio several years ago as i had enough music to last me a lifetime and still i have albums i've not listened to, i then went onto video.

Collecting reggae vinyl is an expensive business and the market is so strong right now, but i'm guessing it will weaken at some point, how long can these old 7"s hold such high prices? it's like everything, the market will usually crash at some point, will wait and see.

I find that some reggae collectors will go after one label at a time and collect the whole set. Thats another way of doing things.

Good luck with your collecting, it surely is a lifelong thing....
