Just before Scientist left for the US in '85, he did some work at Tuff Gong, right? Does anyone know what he engineered there? Was any of that material released?

Don't know about scientist.. but I do know King Tubby engineered and mixed some Japanese stuff shortly (months)@ Tuff Gong before he was killed....

He also mixed several dubplates for Shaka there in late 1987....

Yeah, I've got the Mute Beat Japanese stuff Tubby mixed. Wasn't aware of the Shaka plates, though...

Still, Scientist at Tuff Gong eh? Anything?

I really wonder if Tubby is really implied in the Mute Beat stuff... got that LP too... but doubt it is him in term of mix... dont know about scientist...

If it's not Tubby, it's someone doing a good impression of his signature sound...

I don't recall Scientist ever working at Tuff Gong. I believe he went to America after his stint at Channel One.

Suspicious about Tubby getting his "signature" sound at Tuff Gong. Tubby mixed on a 4 track, and it's a significantly different skill working on 24 tracks (or maybe even 32 by then) than it is working 4 tracks. How can Tubby get his signature sound wihout his high-pass filter?

It wouldn't be the first time Scientist was mis-credited! Not to say that the man never touched the board at TG studio, but he wasn't the resident engineer there for any length of time. I would believe otherwise only if it came from the man himself.

here is a pretty recent interview with Scientist, in which he discusses working at Tubby's, Tuff Gong, and Channel One.
