It's not the original release. The first one was on Lion Of Judah label.
First the origonal cover is the brown one. The reissues (and there are a lot) used this brown cover (that turned pinkish...) or a Green one.
The first press appeared on LOJ with typo on back cov ("Squeeze panhandle" instead of "M. DJ man") which was corected for the second batch also on LOJ.
There are some early presses from late 70's early 80's (78/81) pressed for export and distributed by VP records. These presses have an Upsetters (with "S") label. The one with clouds... i think these one are the first to have the green cover.
All the Upseter (without "S") labels presses are from the mid 80's and 90's. most of them use the original stampers and suffer from a poor sound quality due to overused of the stampers.

Hi wareika,
that doesn't exactly answer the question.
I think we are talking about release on Upsetter label ( no 'S') which is dark blue with black lettering and matrix # LPIR 0000. Definitely a jamaican pressing in the green cover and 'Mr.DJ Man' on it.
Greetings

It does answer the question IMO.
He asked for "original" Upsetter pressing. This is not an original as I stated. Even if it uses the same stamper as my press on LOJ. Same thing happened with the Black Board Jungle set which was reissue in the 80's via Coxsone Fulton based camp (the one with red cover with a blackboard on it)...
He also asked how much it is worth. I didn't answered clearly, but a press from mid 80's or 90's is worth nothing IMO.
If you are into collecting original LPs you only have to search the LOJ pressing or the UpsetterS one.

I am writing on behalf of a friend that has this green jacket upsetter JA release. He has had for 13 years or so and was handed down from someone else to him. i don't have the LP, so i cant see the pressing at the moment, but ill check it soon for details you seh.
So the lion of Judah release is the "original" over the Upsetter release? In archives it shows the upsetter one was pressed or released one year earlier?
But you do make sence of what u seh!
very helpful!
ITES Belly and Wareika!

There are plenty errors in Roots Archives regarding originals and repress. labels scans are often mixed up.
Blue labe + black printing: It might be the reissue from early 80's. There are some reissue using exactly the same font and printing but with a white label instead of blue. Definitly not an original.

wareika,
Im just currious... Is this true or not that reissues have the original press release date and or the reissued date aslo? most all reissues i own have the reissued date. but maybe then it was different?
this one just says 1977... so im told.

Of course most of jamaican reissue have original dates instead of reissue date on label. You have to check other details like adresses on cov or lab, sleeve printers, the paper used for labels, the general looking of sleeve and the plainty others details. Hard to give a full list of this details.
Regarding this LP. Take it as you want but this press is defenetly not an original. I don't know how worth it is (and I don't care). If your friend try to sell it for big money he would have to expecte that a unexperienced buyer is ready to pay. I give you full details and believe me this one is not interesting at all for those who collect originals. Just a reissue among others...
