Hi everyone, does anyone have an idea how to find out, how many copies were pressed/printed of Greensleeves Records? I'm especially interested in the 12" disco mix category.

Anyone?

Thanks!

Bobby, i`m not sure I get the question.

Are you asking

1, How many titles (albums / 12" singles)were released on Greensleeves.

or

2, Are you asking how many copies of all there releases were pressed in total.

If its the first part them I would imagine that is answerable with a bit of investigating.

If its the second option then I think that is almost impossible to answer.

Dave

Hi Dave,

it's the second option. For the first question I found some good sites with complete discographies.

I thought that the answer would be easy to answer for collectors. I come from a punk/hardcore background and in that genre the total amount of pressed records is one of the most important things for collectors.

Thank you!

Oh - and to not be misunderstood: I'm not talking about the total amount of ALL greensleeves records, but the pressed amount of the individual releases.

(sorry for my crappy english!)

Heard before that some Grensleeves discos were pressed in amounts of 20.000 to 25.000 copies, which seems a lot to me..
Guess were talking bout he best-selling titles then?

I'd imagine the best selling titles would have sold in the 100k+ range (and I know one title that sold over 600k copies). They had some sizable hits in their 30 years. Once upon a time on the B&F board their PR person at the time 'Liam' would post, he would have some idea of runs of later era Greensleeves productions. He may still be on that board.

The man Bobby who is hunting for business secrets of record companies and artists/producers/licensees, funny :-; (possibly you can hack the data archives of the UK copyright societies)

but I try to give a little input here - you have to check out the original pressings of the Greensleeves 12" singles, especially of the early years of the label and there is the rule 'the more the commercial success was, the more records have been pressed and sold', one essential indication are chart postions --> no chart entry, less copies manufactured. And the less price you can find them on the second hand market, the less have been pressed up.

re. ReggaeFire's guess of 100K (= 100000 copies) to 600K that's misleading as a general information, this might be later 12" releases for Shaggy, Beenie Man 'Who Am I', or Mr Vegas big big chart hits. But keep in mind that at that time the CD-Single was selling much more as the vinyl versions - this figures definitely include the CD Singles.

The classics of the early Greensleeves singles, didn't do so much with 100K plus (even if one think 'this are the hits' and should deserve such sales) - I guess between 2000 to max 10000, like the UK Punk singles of the '76 to '82.

There are reasons singles have not been re-pressed (or are still available). It's simply the demand of the market - no demand anymore = last pressing will be sold out and not repressed.

Guessing, but the Eastwood and Saint records would have been pretty big sellers (100k plus) as they were on the verge of being UK pop hits.
