generally 1 table for the old school sound systems (including K Earthquake, Channel One, Aba Shanti)
Why use two? Two is for techno DJ's and stressed people

why use one ? usually a matter of money...(not just the table itself , but also stylus, cardridges connectors etc )

I've just noticed that all UK sound systems I've been to recently (dub school, fueled by blackamix) use one 1 TT.
Why use 2?

As most reggae DJs or selectors do not tend to actually mix records together, it doesn't really matter. It is a tradition thing. It is also a vibes thing, the silence after the tune is like a continuation until the next tune plays. With sound effects and mic men, this silence doesnt last long.
When I startewd playing out, we usually had 2 decks, but often only one actuially worked, so 'warrior style' was not a choice for me, it was a necessity!
Modern DJs are obsessed with beat matching and 'seamless blending' - sounds like a recipe for boredom to me! Why be afraid of a bit of silence?
Yes, Tubbs uses a laptop - times are changing indeed with sounds using CDs, iPods, laptops, DATs (remember them?) and the arguments over authenticity still rage on 20 years after the Dub DAT arguments started.

Cause in Jamaica "two is better than too many......". :^)
