Get Up Edina

Does anyone know of another version of 'Get Up Edina' besides Desmond Dekker? Back in about 1973 I was shopping at Randy's in Kingston and they had a huge table of 45's for 10 cents each. Alot of the 45's were white labels. I picked up a few handfuls for purchase not knowing what I was buying. Thru the years, some, but not all of these white labels have shown up on comp's, but this one never has. Does anyone have any idea of who it can be? The voice is similar to Desmond's but de riddim is more reggae than ska.

Sounds like a dream come true! I'd like to hear more about your experiences at Randy's, anything.
I think Stanley and The Turbines did some kind of song with Edina in the lyrics, not sure if that's what you're referring to though.
More Randy's, more Randy's!

Ain't it a TOOTS & THE MAYTALS tune ? A very tough one, as a matter of fact..." nah want to do the work, all right, all right ! Crazy, lazy, lady !"

Soon come versionside.
I pulled out the 45 to provide more info. The label that was slapped on the record is a pink TANYA. The titles on both sides are crossed over with black marker although one can still see that the label used was for a 45 of 'Peace Freedom' Love & Happiness' by The Manx. The only things not marked out were Dist by Randy's and the North Parade address and very strange that the producers name, Clive Chin, in NOT marked out. The number in the run off groove on the A-side is CC 1974A and on the B-side, CC 1975B. On both run off groove #'s there appears to be the letters RR. The B-side is more of an instrumental version as opposed to dub. A few of the vocals appear but not echoed. Is this any help?

Thanks again for everyones help. I checked out the Toots tune and it is definately not that fine tune. Crazy Baldhead was spot on. The vocals to Him Pon Top are sung in very heavy patois. Now that I know the title, it all makes sense now. Cheers!
