Hello,
i recently recieved an order from Deadly Dragon Sounds in NYC which included the 7" repress of Early B's Imitator.
The copy i recieved has a loud click/scratch through the start of the vocal & version sides, so just wondering if anybody else has picked this up & what your copy is like?
any replys appreciated

Hi j j,
I got this single from DD too and although it doesn't have any bad scratches, it isn't the greatest quality. Not bad, though, seems a typical JA pressing. Very playable. Other DD releases that they themselves produce are way better. Frustrating these Jamaican represses are, no? Yabby You releases seem to have similar shaky quality.

Thanks for your reply scottalfa . The Imitator 7" is actually a Deadly Dragon repress.
I had listened to the soundclip at DDS & it did have a couple of clicks/pops on the version side but nothing like the scratch on my copy.
So your copy plays fine with no big scratch at the start of each side.i guess i'll ask for a replacement then.
cheers

I bought from Honest Johns the Prince Jazzbo Basic Replay 12" Version. Same as this Imitator flip. Very high quality press. Plus it has Sensi Addict Version. Don't know if you have that as well, but for the version, it's a cleaner press. I like Deadly Dragon releases and if I'm ever in New York, Ill be sure to stop by.

The Basic Replay 12" with Ujama dubs is one of my favourite releases ever. Just a perfect little digital dub EP! Wouldn't have minded yet another dub on each side though.

I do not recommend any Deadly Dragon related stuff. Poor presses. At least that's my experience.

Yes i have that basic Replay 12",thanks for reminding me guys.
DDS are going to send me another copy of the Early B 7"
I would like to add that this is the first crap press i have got from DDS , all the rest are pretty good, especially when considering the quality of some Jamaican pressed records!

Muir Head - bad boy visit and Daddy Freddy - bad boy patrol were both rubbish.

Deadly Dragon here...I am sorry to hear that anyone has received a crap copy of one of our reissues. We actually work hard within the confines of what we do to have good quality reissues. We work directly with the producers to master from tape as opposed to mastering from a CD or an old record and we really try to exert some quality control. That said, whenever you press up a bunch of records in Jamaica, there are going to be some bad copies -- even if you press in Europe, there is bound to be some bad apples in the whole bunch. If anyone has had a problem, we are happy to send out a replacement. As for pressing in Jamaica...Well, for our Park Heights reissues, we pressed here in NYC and yes, the standard was higher; on the other hand, whether it is some stupid, nostalgic morality or not, I am happy to put money into the Jamaican economy from the guys who print the labels, to the guys who pack the records. Seeing as all the pressing plants in Jamaica are closing down, we probably won't even be able to do that in the future. Thanks for listening!
