Which labels and srudio's pioneered the earlier dub sound? I'm sure there must have been lot's, these are the few studio/labels I know who had early dub releases.

Studio one.

Treasure Isle.

Tubby's/Tubby Hi-Fi

Black Ark/Upsetter's

From here on I'm lost, I know there were a lot of other labels, some attached to studio's like above, could anyone clue me up?

what about Channel one, Clancy's, Harry J's, are there any other's and were there many early dub release any on these labels? I'd most like to find compilations, LP's and Albums, but I'm at a loss as to where to look for them.

Also try the many books available on the subject and easilu available on line by typing "dub" under "book section" on famous websites!!!!

I believe Randys with Errol T is another one to add to the list. Particuarly Java Java Dub

there is a documentary on randy's were clive chin claims that it was him and errol t who invented dub when they recorded the java java dub LP, but I don't know if it is correct. some say perry, others tubby. me, i dont know. it would be nice to know who pioneered the dub effects on the early years

check out greensleeves evolution of dub boxsets, they have excellent notes and work out less than £10 for cd's in each volume.
but you need to look at early 45 B sides.i think linford anderson ?(andy cap)who worked at federal he done an ealy proto dub think it was pop a top, with Lee Perry.
also Niney done some early stuff with Joe Gibbs johhny lover nevada Joe,desi youngs News flash etc.
But i do recomend the evolution of dub series.

Again, where do you draw the line between instrumental and dub. This is what you have to consider also when you listen to so called "first dubs". I'd say its King Tubby who invented the dub with delay echo and stripping the riddim down to bass & drums.

It will probably answer (or at least give some good thoughts) on several questions asked in this thread. It's the best article I've read on dub.
