Knotty!
Who can say I about the sound quality of the Cd `Straigth Outta Trenchtwn 1975-1980´ (M10, 2002).
The label M10 like others mek mi have doubts when I want buy cos I have bad experiences. For example with Hugh Mundell´s `The Blessed Youth´ that have very poor quality.

Satta.

What do you mean exactly by 'poor quality'? M10 or Makasound as the label is known, like many other rerelease-labels, is going back to some original pressings on jamaican or (better) english/american vinyls, just because there are not always the original masters available or lost. This happens quite often, sad to say, even when the producers are A.Pablo or Tappa Zukie, to name just two.
If you grew up with jamaican vinyl, especially 7"s, you would be delighted on every cd-pressing that has been so carefully restored like the ones from Makasound, Blood and Fire, Pressure Sounds, Soul Jazz, Hot Shot or even Trojan.
I only can recommend the cd your asking about just because it contains some really great music from a group that sadly was underrecorded and still hasn't got the knowledge (sic) it deserves !
Greetings.

Sight Bellyman. I dont know how long you have collected roots music Titus, but if you are questioning the sound quality so much (see your kool roots thread), aren't you missing the point. This is just part of the magic and warmth of the music. Most, if not all of the re-issue companies take much time trying to bring YOU music you would otherwise not have access to, without messing with the overall feel and sound. You could be talking 30 yr old battered 2" master tapes, vinyl transfer or whatever. But what is beyond doubt is that you are hearing the best overall result without compromise. Read the sleeve note's to Heart of The Congo's(blood and fire) and you will get an insight into the mammoth task of re-issue.
Peace and Love
