King Jammy Present - Black Arrow (Faulty?)

I'm a big fan of Barry Brown dub cuts such as

Blessed Dub - King Tubby's Lost Treasures
Natty Roots Man – Best Of
Politician - @King Tubbys Studio
Step It On In Dub – Dub Gone Crazy 1 etc

I have purchased no less than 4 copies of the KT Presents album (LP) and all have a jump near the end of the first track "Best Things In Life Extended Dub"

I've purchased from several different sources over the period of 18 months and I'm convinced its a manufacturing problem.

Am I just cursed or are all versions of the album faulty?

PS

I really hope someone one day can out together a decent collection of his dubs tracks.

It's the pressing. Also some other issues such as the sound going mute for fractions of a second during the same dub. But the rest of the album plays great. Brilliant album.

Agree that this is a brilliant album. If you've got some extra cash, it's worth tracking down "Prince Jammy presents Barry Brown Showcase" (the original that the Black Arrow release is based on)

[cover=7701,1309]

This J.A. pressing is excellent sound quality, one of my favourite sets from the period!

One of the frustrating things about being a reggae fan is the poor pressing you come across. It's a shame Blood & Fire have stopped issuing records since their pressing were always first rate.

@kalcidis - the annoying thing is that the dub is bubbling at the point the jump occurs. It pisses me off so much that I rarely listen to the other tracks!

@Jahson, I notice the original showcase has less tracks but since you mentioned its a good pressing I shall keep an eye out for it.

Thanks a lot.

Ponderguy,

I have just pulled out and played the Black Arrow CD issue of this album and it doesnt jump.

Assuming this CD has been remastered from the original tapes then i`m sure it must be possible that there are some good vinyl copies about unless the whole batch of presses were faulty

Most likely a faulty stamper - a shame, no doubt.

Actually this hasn't bothered me too much because the faulty song is available on a nice reissued 10" so if you have both you're not missing anything at all.

I've just picked up the CD and can confirm the first track has no jump. Previous to this purchase I cursed the quality of the vinyl pressings but now I realise the CD has been mastered from some ropy vinyl. Even with my home digital recordings I spend time cleaning up the imperfections!

Thanks to all for contributing.
