I just saw a new cd released by Greensleeves that contains both releases of Black Uhuru's Love Crisis and Black Sounds of Freedom. I have never heard Love Crisis. Can someone tell me if there is any significant difference (in sound) between these two releases?

The press on Third World has a much simpler mix and the one on Greensleeves was overdubed. I have to check carfefully but straight from memory the first on don't have keyboards, it's a very mimimalist mix. Killer set IMO especially the Third World issue.

From the liner notes of 'Black Sounds of Freedom' on Greensleeves GREL 23 on it's release in 1981:
"After a series of single releases ...the group finally recorded their first album for Prince Jammy...The album was called 'Love Crisis' when first released (in 1977), and has been re-mixed by Prince Jammy and re-titled 'Black Sounds of Freedom'."
What the liner notes don't say, they changed the tracklist too !

I have the original black uhuru - love crisis LP on jammy's and it is the original mix from 1977, not the overdubbed version from 1981(like the archives says) The difference between the third world and the JAmmys presses are the countries they are pressed in (UK vs JA). Greensleeves' black sounds of freedom Lp is the newer overdubbed remix version of the 1977 classic. Don't forget the jammy's inna Lion Dub Style LP that is basically the dub counterpart to the original vocal LP. It's listed on the archive as the Live and love press (UK) but I have it on the original Jammys label (JA press- same as the love crisis LP I have) I was just listening to the Linval Thompson - Love is the question LP on burning sounds label, and it has many tunes that mix with tthe Love Crisis LP. Bunny Lie Lie -give me love in africa LP also has one that mixes with satan army band. good stuff to look for. aDam
