Lee Scratch Perry - Essential Dub Masters

Anyone have any info on this? It seems a bit shady. Maybe shady isn't the right word, I don't know. But it's some weird random label called Goldenlane. One of these download "releases". Anyway, it's 30 tracks and a lot of it is very familiar, but a fair amount is not familiar to me! Not that I'm a Scratch completist, but at this point I thought I'd heard most of his stuff.

So, if you know this release, is it really just rehashing lots of standards and I just don't know as much as I thought I did? Or are there some killer hidden gems here, as it sounds to me?

See this thread:

And, if you haven't already, take a look at the "Bogus" section of my Lee Perry discography:

Looks like the bullsh*t companies have moved into MP3 business...

OK, well, now that I've actually *listened* to that release (Essential Dub Masters), those are all genuine Black Ark dubs. However, I don't think Goldenlane has the rights to release them, but who knows?

Sorry to jump to conclusions, but there are *so many* bogus Scratch releases out there.

I love that you've exposed the bogus releases! I strongly suspected the Goldenlane one was not legit in terms of the rights to the material. But yeah, the tracks definitely sound like the real deal.

So my question remains. Maybe about a third or slightly less of the tracks are new to me, either a riddim I hadn't heard before, vocal snippets from tunes I don't know, or just different sounding mixes. Is all this stuff available elsewhere in more legit fashion, or are some of these a bit off the beaten track, as it seems to me ( though again I'm no Perry expert, but am no newbie either).

It's been awhile since I updated that section, and I can only imagine that there are now a lot of bogus digital Scratch releases. Certainly some of those dubs are available elsewhere, but I would have to listen to all of them to make a comprehensive review.

That's a nice collection. A number of the tracks come from these LPs

In fact, Megaton dub albums are more or less dubious. Almost all are black ark riddims on "Megaton Dub 1", with extra delay added by C. Owens. On "Megaton Dub 2" are all black ark riddims but with weird sound effects added.
